David & Karen Coker Endowed Campership Fund Established

Dave and Karen Coker hold a memory quilt made and gifted by Caryl and Mark Grorud (also pictured). The quilt was given to Dave and Karen at the Quilt Auction and monetary gifts were accepted from the stage to establish the “Dave Coker Endowed Camper Fund.”

Dave Coker has served at Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries for 27 years. Within this time, he has been instrumental in building and supporting NLOM’s campership policy. That policy, set by the board, states that “no child will be turned away because they can’t pay the fee.” Coker took this directive seriously and made sure that anyone who wanted to attend camp was given the opportunity.

“When each kid comes to camp, the number one message they hear is ‘God loves you no matter what.’ Karen and I want to make sure more kids get to hear this message every

summer,” Dave said.

Now, as Dave is set to retire at the end of the year, NLOM is estabilishing The David & Karen Coker Endowed Campership Fund for the purpose of keeping camp affordable for all through camp scholarships.

“Karen and I believe that NLOM has the most incredible summer camp programs anywhere," Dave continued. "Each Summer Ministry Team member gives their all in living out their role in sharing God’s love.”

This Fund has been established to honor the Cokers years of love and service to NLOM. “When you give, know that NLOM takes seriously its call to use gifts as donors wish," Dave emphasized. "We want this fund to be used to support scholarships and your gifts to honor and support campers will be set aside to do just that. We trust NLOM.

“We feel so honored that NLOM is doing this in our name. It is humbling. Thank you.”
